American surfing legend Kelly Slater won another victory at the Billabong Pro Pipeline in Hawaii on Sunday, February 6, a few days before her 50th birthday. Born on February 11, 1972, Slater overtook local stage Seth Moniz, his junior by nearly 25 years and whose father was already among the American’s rivals twenty years ago. Slater won the event, held on the island of Oahu, for the first time in 1992 and has won it a total of eight times. Slater is aiming for a 12th world title on his record. He was last crowned in 2013. Slater now leads the Surfing World Cup with 10,000 points ahead of Moniz (7,800) with nine events remaining on the 2022 calendar, with the next scheduled to take place at Phillip Island in Australia. However, he may not be able to participate due to his opposition to the Covid vaccination.
