Two people were killed and several others injured when a person opened fire with an automatic weapon near a square in the Molenbeek neighborhood on Monday evening.
The shooting occurred just over an hour before Sweden’s European Championship football qualifier against Belgium in Brussels, and several media outlets state that the two people who died were wearing Swedish national team jerseys.
According to the newspaper HLN, the police have confirmed that the two are Swedes.
According to Sudinfo, a film has also been circulated in which a man claims to belong to the terrorist movement IS and to be looking for “revenge on Muslims”.
Brussels – and not least Molenbeek – is already notorious in Islamist circles. It was from here that a large amount of the perpetrators behind the terrorist attacks in Paris in November 2015 originated, and the same group was also behind new crimes in Brussels barely six months later.
