This is what a hospital source who spoke with an AFP colleague says. Earlier in the day, two young people died after being hit by live ammunition. Among them, an 18-year-old student, Mamadi Keïta, who was shot in the chest in Sonfonia, a neighborhood in the upper suburbs of Conakry shaken by violence this Monday.
Bambeto, Wanindara, other hot spots on the Le Prince road have caught fire in recent hours. It was in Hamdallaye that Abdoulaye Touré, the second death of the day, succumbed to his injuries. In the rest of the city, and particularly in its business center, Kaloum, there was an unusual calm. Banks, mines, telecoms, transport… Unions from the main sectors of the Guinean economy have joined the general strike.
Their main demand remains the release of the leader of the press union, sentenced to three months in prison. They also demand a reduction in the prices of basic necessities. The unions were invited to a meeting with religious leaders this Monday. They have also seen the authorities, but the dialogue is still at a standstill.
