The storm passed through New Zealand’s North Island on Tuesday, leaving widespread devastation in its wake. A national emergency has been declared.
Large parts of the North Island were without power on Tuesday. As of Wednesday morning local time, power had been restored to many of them but about 144,000 residents were still without power, the news site reports Stuff.
