In Burkina Faso, ten people were killed on Sunday, December 25, in the explosion of an artisanal mine near Fada N’Gourma, in the east of the country. Five others were injured, according to a statement from the provincial governor. Their transport bus ran over an improvised explosive device, towards the commune of Bougui.
According to residents of Fada N’Gourma, it was a Dina-type bus, small public transport vehicles, which was hit by the explosion of a mine on Sunday afternoon. Twenty civilians were on board.
According to the statement from the governor of the eastern region, ten passengers died on the spot. Five others, injured, were quickly transported to the regional hospital center of Fada N’Gourma. Several people are still missing.
The incident occurred near the village of Bougui on national road 4. This axis, which connects Fada N’Gourma to Kantchari before joining Niger, is regularly attacked by armed men. It is an important commercial route which supplies trade, the main activity of Fada N’Gourma, a crossroads town, and its 75,000 inhabitants.
