At least nine dead in earthquake
At least nine people are said to have died and many buildings have collapsed in an earthquake that struck a remote Himalayan region of Tibet, state-controlled Chinese media reported on Tuesday.
According to China’s geological agency CENC, the magnitude should have been 6.8, while the US geological agency USGS states that the figure was 7.1.
The quake is said to have also been felt in neighboring Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu.
According to the state news agency New China, “local authorities are in contact with the affected areas to assess the impact of the earthquake”.

The US has had its first bird flu death.
It concerns a patient in the state of Louisiana, who has been hospitalized since mid-December. The victim had been in contact with sick and dead birds that were kept on private property in a backyard.
The risk for the public to become infected remains low, points out the health authority in Louisiana.
So far, about 60 people have fallen ill in the latest outbreak of bird flu in the United States, but others have had milder symptoms. Most of the cases have been linked to animal husbandry.

The alarm came in half an hour after midnight. According to Sydsvenskan, there was minor damage to a door on one of the houses in a cottage village.

The alarm about the shooting came at 9:50 p.m., but the police operation continued in the villa area even after midnight.
A family lived in the shelled house and survived without physical damage.

France confirms cases of dangerous mpox
France confirms a first case of the more dangerous variant of mpox, clade 1b, reports BFMTV.
The WHO decided in August last year that mpox clade 1 should be classified as an international threat to human health. The infection has mainly spread on the African continent.
The first case outside Africa was reported in Sweden in August. Since then, cases have also been confirmed in Germany, Great Britain and Canada, among others.
