A national day of mourning was declared for Saturday in Portugal.

At least four people have died in a helicopter crash in Portugal, authorities say.

The crash happened on Friday in the northern parts of the country along the Duero River, after the helicopter of rescue personnel returned from an alert mission in the city of Baião, near Porto.

The rescue workers found a total of four bodies at the crash site. One person is still missing. So far, only the pilot of the crashed plane has been found alive at the crash site.

The Portuguese government declared a period of mourning for the country on Saturday.
