At least five people have died and more than 100,000 have been left stranded in floods in northern Bangladesh, the country’s authorities said on Sunday.
Many homes and roads have been submerged under floodwaters, forcing thousands of families to evacuate their homes. Rescue operations have been carried out, for example, by the country’s army.
The heavy rains that caused the floods are predicted to continue in the coming days, which has increased the fear that the flood situation will worsen.
Located in a low-lying delta region, Bangladesh, with a population of 170 million, has been flooded several times this year, which has been seen as a sign of the progress of climate change.
Violent floods were seen especially in August in eastern Bangladesh, where more than 70 people died as a result of the floods.
