In the United States, at least nine people in the state of Kentucky have died in floods caused by heavy rainfall.
State governor Andy Beshear Estimates Sunday that the number of deaths may still increase.
According to Beshear, most of the deaths have occurred when motorists have been surrounded by flood waters.
Winter storms also raged over the weekend in parts of Florida and Georgia. In the Georgian capital in Atlanta, one person died early on Sunday morning when the tree fell over the house. In addition, strong winds and heavy rainfall in the Atlanta area have cut off electricity from thousands of people.
