This plan, called ‘variant A plus’, consists of 30 percent social rent, 20 percent mid-range rent, 16.6 percent social purchase and 33.4 percent purchase. According to the municipal council, “plus” means that this variant must have a “sustainable and green appearance”. The landowners previously threatened to build a hotel opposite Bilthoven station instead of homes, or to renovate the existing buildings, which would also make the site unavailable for new construction.
