At least 500 dead in attack on hospital in Gaza

The courtyard, belonging to the hospital complex, is said to have been hit in an airstrike, according to a spokesman for the health authorities in Gaza.

Thousands of Palestinian civilians had sought care and protection at the hospital from Israeli attacks.

Pictures from the hospital reportedly show heavy fires and large amounts of broken glass, writes the AP news agency.

If the numbers are confirmed, it would be the deadliest attack on Gaza since 2008, according to AP.

The World Health Organization, WHO, strongly condemns the information about the attack on the hospital.

“The hospital in question was one of 20 in the area that the Israeli military had previously urged residents to evacuate. The hospital was in use with patients, caregivers and people who took shelter there,” the organization writes on its website website.

IDF: Jihad behind the attack.

Both the Israeli military, the IDF, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claim that the terrorist group Islamic Jihad is behind the attack.

“Intelligence from several sources indicates that terrorist-labeled Islamic Jihad is responsible for the failed rocket attack that hit the hospital in Gaza,” it said in a statement.

According to an Israeli witness Haaretz spoken, the hospital is said to have been attacked without warning, causing great devastation.

– Suddenly there was a big explosion in the middle of the hospital, everything exploded. There were loads of people there, thousands.

Six dead in attack on school

On Tuesday evening, shortly after the attack, terrorist-branded Hamas stated that it is willing to release all civilian hostages in an hour if Israel stops bombing Gaza. This is stated by a high-ranking spokesperson for NBC News.

Earlier, six people who sought refuge in a school in a refugee camp in central Gaza were killed in an Israeli airstrike, the UN agency for Palestine refugees, UNRWA, said on its website.

Meanwhile, trucks continue to queue on the Egyptian side of the border with supplies of medicine, fuel and supplies.

But during Tuesday the border was still closed – despite intensive diplomatic attempts to open the border, TT reports.

Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas has canceled his planned meeting with US President Joe Biden and announced three days of national mourning after the hospital attack.
