At least 35 civilians have been killed after a convoy carrying supplies hit an explosive device in Burkina Faso, the northern Sahel region’s governor said.

“One of the vehicles transporting civilians hit an improvised explosive device. According to the preliminary figures, 35 people were killed and 37 were injured, all civilians,” said Governor Rodolphe Sorgho in a statement.

Northern Burkina Faso has been plagued by jihadist terrorist acts for several years.
