At least 26 dead in air attack in Ethiopia

At least 26 people have been killed and 55 injured in an Ethiopian airstrike on a square in the town of Finote Selam in the Amhara region, a senior medical source said.

Two residents say the airstrike targeted a truck carrying civilians delivering food to the local Fano militia. The information has not been confirmed.

Last week, Ethiopia stated that several towns in Amhara have been “liberated” after several days of fierce fighting between the Ethiopian military and militant groups. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has declared a six-month state of emergency in the region.

Amhara regional forces and the Fano militia supported government forces in the war against rebels in the neighboring region of Tigray, which ended in a peace deal last November.
