At least 25 dead in fire in Istanbul

At least 29 people have died after the fire that started in a residential building in the district of Gayrettepe. This is stated by the city governor Davut Gül’s office.

According to Sky News it concerns a nightclub venue on the ground floor and in the basement that was closed for renovation.

Several people are being treated in hospital with serious injuries. Guls therefore warns that the death toll risks rising further.

The victims are believed to have been involved in the renovation work. Five people, including the nightclub manager, have been taken in for questioning, according to Sky News.
