As a result of Hurricane Helen, at least 236 people have died in six different states, according to the US media CNN. The state of Tennessee reported one new death from the storm on Tuesday.
The highest death toll is in the state of North Carolina, where 117 people have died as a result of the hurricane. The second highest number of people have died in the state of South Carolina, where the death toll is 48.
Helene has been the second most destructive hurricane to hit the continental United States in the past 50 years. More destructive than Helene was Hurricane Katrina, which killed at least 1,833 people in 2005.
Florida is currently being approached by Hurricane Milton, which has strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane.
President of the United States Joe Biden has asked residents to flee the area and warned that the approaching hurricane could be the worst natural disaster to hit Florida in a century.
