At least 14 people have died in the earthquake in Vanuatu | News in brief

The island nation of Vanuatu, located in the Pacific Ocean in Oceania, was hit by a strong earthquake on Tuesday, as a result of which at least 14 people have been killed. According to the USGS, the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.3.

The earthquake badly damaged, among other things, buildings in the capital Port Vila. One of the damaged buildings housed the embassies of the United States, Britain, France and New Zealand.

After the earthquake, a tsunami warning was first issued to the area, which was later cancelled.

Located in the South Pacific Ocean, Vanuatu consists of more than 80 islands inhabited by approximately 330,000 people.
