At least 14 people dead in torrential rain in China

Record-breaking rains have fallen across China in recent weeks. On Friday, Beijing said that last month’s natural disasters caused 147 deaths or disappearances.

The state-run New China News Agency (Xinhua) reported on Sunday, citing local authorities, that the downpour in Jilin had now “basically stopped”, with nearly 19,000 people evacuated.

The rainfall is the most severe since measurements began 140 years ago.
