At Le Mans hospital, 53 surgeons from the establishment resign at the same time

Faced with the deterioration of their working conditions and the repeated closures of hospital beds, doctors in Le Mans have decided to no longer fulfill their administrative responsibilities.

A “massive” resignation, with the aim of challenging the Minister of Health, the Regional Health Agency of Pays de la Loire, all the deputies and senators of Sarthe as well as the mayor of Le Mans, Stéphane Le Foll .

A general disappointment

In this letter, the group of 53 doctors, members of the collective of surgeons and anesthesiologists of the Le Mans hospital, explains that they are “disengaging” from all their administrative functions and responsibilities. On the other hand, they ensure that they remain at the bedside of their patients.

This radical decision follows a general frustration, caused by a lack of human and financial resources.

Last year, surgeons and anesthetists at Le Mans hospital had to deal with a massive influx of patients, caused by the closures of emergency services in Sarthe and Mayenne.

Result: the hospital center found itself under tension and was forced to condemn 60 conventional surgery beds out of 150.

110 operations deprogrammed since the beginning of the year

Since the beginning of January, the teams have even had to deprogram nearly 110 operations. Some cancer patients have been directly affected.

Finally, due to a lack of competent staff, some members of the establishment had to treat patients suffering from illnesses for which they had sometimes not been trained.
