At first only one person came to the actors solo

Actress Georgie Grier, who performed to an almost empty audience in Edinburgh, received support from Britain’s top comedians on social media: “We’ve all done the same thing.”

Actor-comedian With Georgie Grier it’s been an eventful week: First he performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe cultural event for one person and just a day later to a full house.

When only one person showed up for Grier’s show on Thursday, he decided to post a tearful picture on the messaging service X (formerly Twitter) with the caption:

– Today, when I performed my one-woman show, there was one person in the audience. That’s ok, right? Is that ok?

The publication started to spread quickly and gathered responses from Britain’s top comedians as well. Host of the popular show Mock The Week Dara Ó Briain comforted that later misfortune will turn into victory.

– We have all done the same. Soon you will be entertaining people with this story. Several times I have had to buy my audience a drink as a thank you for being the only ones to come, Ó Briain wrote.

Comedian Jason Manford sent Grier a video in which he assured that an audience of one person is completely normal at the beginning of the festival.

– It is also normal to be a little sad or annoyed or angry about it. That’s perfectly fine, too, Manford said.

Grier also received a lot of encouragement from the audience, and the next day he performed at the festival to a full house.

– It was a wild start to the festival, Grier commented to the British newspaper For The Guardian.

– When I posted the update, I was hoping for some encouraging messages and advice from other performers. I had no idea how much it would resonate with people.
