Asymptomatic, insidious, no medicine yet and can be deadly! The secret enemy of the liver: NASH

Asymptomatic insidious no medicine yet and can be deadly The

As an insidious disease, severe fatty liver disease that is not due to alcohol, which does not yet have drug treatment and can progress without any symptoms, can even threaten children. The main cause of fatty liver disease seen in 10 percent of children is obesity due to unhealthy diet and inactivity!

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a condition in which too much fat is accumulated in the liver. If left untreated, it can lead to serious liver problems.

HOW TO DETECT?

NASH occurs when this excess fat turns into inflammation (swelling in the liver) and fibrosis (scarring) in the liver. If the condition is serious enough, this can lead to cirrhosis or liver cancer, potentially requiring a liver transplant.

IS THERE A TREATMENT METHOD?

The more serious NASH gets, the harder it is to manage. The amount of fat in the liver can be reduced by diet, physical activity, and adequate sleep. This can help NAFLD and NASH at all stages. Although there are no approved treatments, dietary and physical activity and lifestyle modification are recommended.

WHAT DOES NASH MEAN?

NASH, that is, the disease called non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, occurs with advanced inflammatory fatty liver that is not related to alcohol. The worst part of the disease, which is seen in approximately 4 million people in Turkey, is its insidious progression and almost no symptoms.

The first International NASH Day was launched in 2018 to raise awareness of the actions they can take to prevent cirrhosis, this relentless disease leading to liver cancer and, finally, liver transplant.
