“I never thought that one day I would send a message about leaving NASA, and that day is today. I see myself as a space lover almost from birth and up, and my mind has always been in space. I have tried to do something for space for years, and have taken part in many projects. “I spent the last 10 years at NASA/JPL, both as an astrophysicist and in deep space communications. I met amazing people who contributed a lot to me, and I had the opportunity to improve myself and my environment.”
“I am now leaving NASA to evaluate these experiences in Turkey and to experience Turkey’s space breakthrough together. Although it seems like a big decision to return to my country after 21 years after graduating from university, I have never actually left. In order to further increase space awareness in my country, “I had the opportunity to communicate one-on-one with hundreds of thousands of students by constantly traveling back and forth or by giving hundreds of e-/conferences online. Thousands of students, to whom I made a small contribution, were motivated and turned to scientific or technical fields. I want to do even more.”
“There is a lot of work to do in space and science in my country. Hoping to do it together, to brand new beginnings…”
“A few months ago, I shared the certificate I received for working at NASA for 10 years (they give certificates and pins every 5 years). Some people saw it and treated me as if I was a football player who had reached the end of the 10-year transfer period. No, I was on the squad indefinitely, I never had any “I had no problems, I had a very good salary, I was very comfortable. Not having any problems started to become a problem, I went bankrupt easily, what should I do? There is a lot of work to do in Turkey, I wanted to keep one side of it.”
