Astrid, 97 and Siw, 93 – refuse to stop playing golf

Club manager Christer Wiik at Ulricehamn’s GK is proud of his two senior members. – Siw came in to our pro Rasmus last year, frustrated after a bad round and wanted a lesson. So she actively trains. I want to say that I see Siw every week up here. Her friend Astrid Lindahl, 97, is not as often on the course, but golf abstinence reminds her if too much time passes between rounds. – I am right for my years, as you know. But when I got up here, when we were going to play the other day, I felt that urge again and thought I HAD to get out on the court! Who is the best of you and Siw then? – Siw, what handicap do you have? – Now I’m 38. And I’ll keep it, assures Siw. – We are probably equal, I think, smiles Astrid. Over 100 years of experience Siv started playing golf in the spring of 1963 – before we Swedes had even heard of the Beatles. Together, they have 111 years of experience in the sport they love and are still striving to get better at it. – The important thing is to train from 100 meters onwards. Those are the most important strokes. You can have a bad tee shot if you score well on the green. It is important not to just stand and feed balls on the ranch, urges Siw. Siw came in to our pro Rasmus last year, frustrated after a bad round and wanted a lesson. Golf means a lot. When we visit in Ulricehamn, the ladies are initially trolling. But after a couple of holes they show class; Siw is close to sinking an 8-meter putt from the foregreen and Astrid dusts the ball away about 90 meters from the tee. Is getting that perfect hit still as satisfying? – Yes, it’s the best! It’s lovely, laughs Astrid, 97.
