The attacking greatness of Aston Villa’s past years Gary Shaw died at the age of 63. Shaw had fallen in early September, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital, where he died on Monday.

– Gary was one of our own boys and a talented striker who delighted our supporters with his goals and helped Villa succeed in the 1980s, the English club said in its press release.

Shaw played 213 matches for Aston Villa and scored a whopping 79 goals. During his time, Aston Villa won the English championship in 1981 and defeated the German giant Bayern Munich in the European Cup final the following year.

Shaw’s time at the top, having scored goals in England and on the Euro courts, was ultimately short. Knee injuries plagued the attacker and numerous surgeries did not help, but Shaw persisted on the playing fields until 1992. After his playing career, he worked as a statistical analyst, among other things.
