Aston Villa, coached by Unai Emery, is making a big splash in the football Premier League when almost half of the series has been played. The club’s last championship was 43 years ago.
In a late match, Aston Villa won 1-0 against Arsenal, who were swinging at the top of the Premier League before Saturday, 1-0 and increased their streak of home wins in the league to a club record, no less than fifteen consecutive matches.
Aston Villa, who finished 14th in the Premier League last season, rose by John McGinn finishing with the winning goal in the 7th minute, two points away from the top of the Premier League and Liverpool, who had defeated Crystal Palace away from home earlier in the day Harvey Elliott 2–1 in overtime.
For a moment, Arsenal assumed that they had equalized the match in extra time, but the VAR review interpreted that Kai Havertz Villa’s goalkeeper had touched the ball with his hand when shooting past the game equipment by Emiliano Martinez. The ball hit Villa at the same time Matty Cash’s on.
Unai Emery’s just four days ago, the proteges beat Manchester City 1-0. Aston Villa has unexpectedly entered the championship in the last rounds and, to the surprise of many, is looking for the club’s first championship since 1981.
– First of all, we are not the biggest challengers, and today we only saw the 16th match of the season out of 38 in total. We are in the top four and we have to try to hold on to that. The challenge is difficult, emphasized Emery to the BBC.
He refused to talk about a possible title dream. After the next three rounds of matches, the Premier League is halfway through.
– Maybe I can discuss it when we have played 30-32 matches, and if we are in the same situation as now.
The most recent victory was particularly palatable for Emery, who was fired from Arsenal four years ago. The Spanish pilot has made a strong mark in just over a year since returning to England and at the helm of Aston Villa.
– I have never achieved something like this (15 home wins in a row), and I will never achieve something similar as a coach. Here at Villa Park we have great supporters and their support is in line with that, praised Emery.
Arsenal coach at the press conference Mikel Arteta stated that the team’s disallowed goal in extra time and the demand for a penalty kick was “clear and obvious”.
However, he did not agree to specify, he meant that the referee’s decision to reject the goal and also not to whistle the comma were clearly wrong judgments.
Arsenal’s second league defeat of the season left Arteta’s men second in the league – one point behind Liverpool.
