SD’s party leader Jimmie Åkesson is now commenting on the tax debt that his party colleague David Perez has of SEK 8.5 million.
– It is clear that eyebrows are raised, says Åkesson.
Åkesson does not think that he, as party leader, has anything to do with Perez’s dispute with the Tax Agency, but he still says that he assumes that Perez pays the tax that he is required to do.
– The process must take its course.
– If it is the case that he has to pay it and is obliged to pay it, then of course he has to do it.
Member of Parliament David Perez, who sits on the finance committee, has been accused of having taken advantage of companies in tax havens and of having provided “incorrect information” in his declarations. He recently lost against the Swedish Tax Agency in the Court of Appeal and the debt was determined to be SEK 8.5 million.
TT: Has this story hurt his confidence?
– These are very large amounts. It is clear that eyebrows are raised, says Åkesson.
– But if you have to look at it crassly, it is not the only one in Sweden that has a dispute with the Tax Agency about how much tax is to be paid and if you have different opinions, you have to be able to pursue it.
Perez has not decided whether he will appeal the decision but will pay the debt if an appeal proves impossible. The party thus has continued confidence in him, according to the press service.
TT: Can he remain on the finance committee?
– I am not aware that there is any discussion about anything else in this situation, says Jimmie Åkesson.
TT has sought David Perez, who did not show up for an interview.
