Lambton provincial police said two people were waiting at an intersection on Ward Line in St. Clair Township on Dec. 18, 2022, when they were allegedly assaulted. A pair of suspects were arrested on Boxing Day.

Lisa Richardson, 39, and Devin Stefanic, 32, both of Wallaceburg, were charged with assault, mischief and theft with a value less than $5,000, police said.

A two-day trial was scheduled in Sarnia, but it was cancelled after Richardson and Stefanic, a couple, both agreed to a one-year common-law peace bond that bars them from contacting the two complainants, going to where they live, work or go to school, and from weapons.

“You can count on them to honour the commitment of a common-law peace bond,” defence lawyer Ken Marley said to Justice Mark Poland.

Stefanic also pleaded guilty to mischief related to a windshield that was damaged, but he received an absolute discharge and does not have a criminal record.

The pair also paid $3,700 in restitution.

“I think that’s a very important consideration. “It’s a considerable amount of restitution, for sure,” the judge said.

The restitution was for the cracked windshield and cellphones that were lost at the scene.

Other charges against the couple were dropped.
