Four people have been arrested in Russia, accused of plotting to assassinate senior military officers. This is stated by the security service FSB according to media loyal to the regime.
The FSB claims, according to Russian news agencies, that the suspects planned to assassinate a senior military official using a remote-controlled car bomb and that another senior military official would be assassinated using an explosive device hidden in an envelope.
The security service does not name the alleged targets.
Last week, Russian Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and one of his associates were killed in Moscow in a bomb attack claimed by Ukraine.
Kirillov was the top director of Russia’s radiological, chemical and biological defenses and was accused by Ukraine of using chemical weapons against Ukrainian soldiers.
The day after the murder, the FSB arrested a suspect, a citizen of Central Asian Uzbekistan, who claimed he had been recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services.
