Protests began after allegations that the tomb of a cleric was damaged in Aleppo, Syria. In the demonstrations that started with the spread of an old video on social media, a group allegedly pro-Assad came face to face with the new Syrian government.
PROTESTS WERE HELD IN MANY CITIES OF SYRIA
After videos about the alleged damage to the tomb of cleric Abu Abdullah Hasibi in the city of Aleppo were circulated among some social media users, some groups gathered in the squares and protested in the provinces of Hama, Homs, Latakia, Tartus and Ceble and Banyas districts.
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY: VIDEOS ARE OLD
In the statement made by the Media Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the interim government, “Videos showing the raid and attack on the tomb of Sheikh Abu Abdullah al-Husaybi, one of the religious shrines of a sect in Aleppo province, were circulated on some social media accounts. These videos were presented as if they had happened recently. The videos circulated are an old video from the period when the city of Aleppo was liberated by unknown groups, showing that we are working day and night to protect the properties of our institutions and religious sites, and this “We state that the purpose of rebroadcasting such videos is to sow discord among the Syrian people during this sensitive period that Syria is going through.” expressions were used.
An armed conflict broke out
While communities chanted slogans such as “Aleviyya” and “Ya Ali Ya Ali” during the protests, armed conflict broke out between activists and security forces in Homs and Tartus.
14 SYRIAN POLICEMEN WERE KILLED
HTS administration in Syria announced that 14 police officers in Tartus died as a result of the conflict.
ASAD’S FORMER SOLDIERS ARE WANTED EVERYWHERE
According to the news published on Syrian State Television SANA, security forces affiliated with HTS launched a search operation in the city against the soldiers remaining from the Bashar Assad administration. In the images published on social media, HTS-affiliated forces were seen clashing in the streets.
A CURFEW WAS DECLARED
After the protests, HTS denied the allegations and declared a curfew for one day.
HTS-affiliated channels also claimed that Hezbollah agents of Lebanese origin were inciting public agitation to create instability in the country.
