A new survival game will soon be released in Early Access on Steam. In ASKA you play a Viking and the world looks very similar to Valheim, just without the pixel look. The latest trailer, however, shows content that is completely different from what you are used to from survival games.
What kind of game is this?
This is what ASKA is now showing: The developers have released a new deep dive video for ASKA. It shows the world and features of the game in 4 minutes of gameplay.
Visually, the game’s animations and flair are very reminiscent of Valheim. You cut down trees with certain physics – even if this can be fatal in Valheim – and various mythical monsters such as forest creatures are your opponents.
At the core of the new gameplay, however, is the “Tribe”. This is the gameplay feature around which ASKA is almost entirely built and what sets it apart from Valheim.
Survival like in Valheim meets city builder like in Rimworld
In ASKA you don’t just build a base and explore the world, you create a tribe. Whether you play alone or in co-op with up to 3 other players, you can recruit NPCs to populate your village:
The NPCs also build new buildings, which you simply place. Your tribe members then do the rest. If you don’t manage to keep your residents happy, they’ll leave.
In gameplay, you can see that the NPCs even have special “perks”, such as reduced productivity during storms. The characters in Rimworld have similar characteristics and are therefore predestined for certain activities or not.
The trailer shows another special feature: When you die, you can either come back in a “weak” form or sacrifice a villager to be revived in full strength.
ASKA will be playable in Early Access on Steam from June 20th. At the Steam Open World Survival Craft Fest from May 27th to June 3rd, you can also play a 5-hour demo for free – alone or in multiplayer.
