As usual, Apple pulled out all the stops to present its back-to-school novelties during its September 7 keynote. iPhone 14, Watch Series 8, AirPods Pro 2… everything is still visible in streaming. Here’s the gist.

As expected, Apple presented its first new products for fall 2022 at its major back-to-school conference. Title Far Out in English – and The adventure goes on in French –, this keynote took place this Wednesday, September 7, at 7 p.m. French time (10 a.m. local time), at Apple Park, the company’s headquarters in California, with a live streaming broadcast.

Apple Keynote 2022: new products in brief

As usual, everything was settled like clockwork. The big show – which lasted more than 90 minutes, like a feature film! – from the firm at the apple started right on schedule, with, in the form of a preamble, a mini film extolling the merits of the Apple Watch with Hollywood testimonials explaining how the famous connected watch had saved lives – the tissues were not provided. A big American trick to introduce the new model, the Watch Series 8, and its variations, more focused than ever on health, physical activity monitoring – even for extreme sports – and safety with their battery of sensors and their range of functions (see our complete article on the Apple Watch Series 8 to discover all the details).

The show continued with the presentation of the new high-end wireless headphones, the AirPods Pro 2. Taking advantage of a new chip (H2) and numerous improvements, they promise better audio quality with even more active reduction of ambient noise. efficient, longer battery life and, of course, compatibility with the Apple sound spatialization system.

Curiously, the “very short” iPhone 14 did not really take center stage in the keynote, the role falling rather to the Watch Series 8. It must be said that apart from the arrival of a Plus model, with a big screen, which compensates in a way for the exclusion of the mini, the new apple-shaped smartphone seems more the fruit of a beautiful evolution than of any revolution. Everything has been improved, but without real innovation for the usual functions. On a physical level, it is also difficult to distinguish the iPhone 14 from the iPhone 13, the traditional large notch still occupying the top of the screen. The only major novelty comes from a security function: communication with satellites, especially designed for emergencies, in order to contact emergency services.

In fact, the real innovations – and the replacement of the notch by a slightly more discreet device in the shape of a large drop – were reserved for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, the most high-end models – and logically the most expensive. – from the Apple family. With a nice surprise called Dynamic Island: an area at the top of the screen, instead of the notch, which displays a wealth of contextual information and which should prove to be very appreciable on a daily basis, in association with the new functions provided by iOS. Of course, as with previous generations, the focus has been on photo and video modules and functions, with many AI-powered improvements that should delight image professionals. Not to mention satellite communication, which now seems to be part of the basic panoply of iPhones. New chip (A16), new sensors (48 megapixels), new functions: the iPhone 14 Pro clearly appears to be the real star of the Apple range (see our full article for all the details).

The iPhone 14 range is as follows:

  • iPhone 14 with a 6.1 inch screen
  • iPhone 14 Plus with a 6.7-inch screen
  • iPhone 14 Pro with a 6.1-inch screen
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max with a 6.7-inch screen

It should however be noted that, despite the injunctions of the European Union, Apple has not yet begun its great transition to the universal socket, USB-C: all the products presented still use the house interface, the port Lightning.

As has been the case for several years, the Apple keynote was accessible to everyone – and not reserved for a privileged few. The conference was indeed broadcast live in video streaming on the Internet – and then available in replay – both on the official websiteon the YouTube channel of the brand and on AppleTV. No need to have a personal invitation or a confidential code to see it: just use a simple web browser, the YouTube application or even a connected television to follow it live or delayed. Better still, if the presentation was obviously in English, as always, the video is fully subtitled in French, which allows non-English speakers not to miss any detail of the announcements.
