The Canadian actor has released his autobiography, “Pageboy”, in which he reveals the difficulties he experienced in coming to terms with his identity in Hollywood, revealing to have suffered sexual assault and harassment.

Elliot Page finally reveals his truth about the difficulty he experienced in assuming his identity within Hollywood. The Canadian actor, who came out transgender and non-binary in 2020, published his autobiography, Pageboy, this Wednesday, June 7, 2023, and some excerpts were relayed by TF1. He recounts his journey, from his childhood to today, and in particular the suffering he has experienced within the film industry.

In this autobiography, Elliot Page reveals to have been the victim of several assaults. First school bullying, then sexual assault from influential men in Hollywood. He thus confides that he was harassed by a director who “tried to [le] seduce” when he was a teenager: “His regular texts and the books he gave me made me feel special. He was taking me to dinner at Swann’s in Toronto. He caressed my thigh under the table, murmuring: “You have to take the first step, I can’t.”

After the shooting of hard candy in 2006, Elliot Page explains that he met a man who “has since made his own films”, who allegedly dragged him into an apartment to sexually assault him. “As soon as I turned 18, there were no limits: it was like people were allowed to do whatever they wanted without my consent,” the actor says revealed in Juno. In this autobiography, he also recounts having been assaulted by an acquaintance from the entertainment industry after his coming out as a lesbian in 2014. “Men are predators and they terrorize you”, he allegedly told her, before continuing: “I’m going to fuck you to make you understand that you’re not a lesbian”.

In these pages, Elliot Page also makes revelations about his romantic relationships, admitting to having been in a relationship with his partner in Juno, Olivia Thirlby, but also with actress Kate Mara when the latter was in a relationship with Max Minghella. He also confides in his transgender coming-out, but also in his hormonal transition and his chest surgery: “Let me exist by your side, happier than ever”.

Elliot Page is a Canadian actor. It is revealed to the public in the thriller Hard Candy then in the independent comedy-drama Juno. The actor then distinguished himself in several roles, such as that of Kitty Pride in X-Men, Ariane in Inception or even Vanya in Umbrella Academy. On December 1, 2020, he came out as transgender and non-binary and changed his name to Elliot Page.

His film and television debut

Born on February 21, 1987 in Halifax (Nova Scotia) and assigned daughter at birth, Elliot Page began his television career in 1997, filming in the TV movie “Pit Pony”. He landed roles in the films “Marion Bridge” (2002) for which he won the ACTRA Award for best performance, and “Wilby Wonderful” (2004), and obtained a recurring role in the series “Trailer Park Boys”. We find Elliot Page in the series “ReGenesis”, in which he plays the role of Lilith. The Canadian actor really made a name for himself with the role of Hayley Stark in the film “Hard Candy”, which earned him critical acclaim. He also starred in “X-Men: The Last Stand” (2006), “The Tracey Fragments” (2007), “An American Crime” (2007).

Her role in “Juno” (2007), in which Elliot Page plays a teenager who becomes pregnant, reveals him as one of the best actors of his generation. Nominated for the Oscars in the best actress category, he obtains the MTW Movie Award in the same category.

Subsequently, the actor then turns in “Smart People” alongside Dennis Quaid and Sarah Jessica Parker (2008), “Bliss” (2009), “Inception“(2010), “Great” (2010), “To Rome with Love” (2012). Elliot Page also reprized his role as Kitty Pride in X-Men Days of Future Past in 2014. He also held the lead role in Tallulah, released in 2016. The actor has also starred in a video game : Beyond Two Souls (2013) developed by Quantic Dream and released on PS3, PS4 and PC.

Since 2019, Elliot Page has joined the cast of Umbrella Academy. In this very popular series broadcast on Netflix, he plays Vanya Hargreeves, the second sister of the superhero siblings who is the only one, at the start of the first season, not to have powers.

Elliot Page first came out on February 14, 2014 during a conference given in Las Vegas by the organization Human Rights Campaign, where he announced that he was attracted to women, because “maybe I can make a difference to help others have a simpler and more hopeful life”. He explained when he had occasion to be “tired of [se] hiding and lying by omission.”

On December 1, 2020, Elliot Page made a second public coming out, announcing on social networks that he was a transgender and non-binary person. He announces that he identifies with the pronouns “he/they” (“il/iel” in French: “they” has a neutral connotation in English which could rather be translated in this context by “iel”). The actor then change his first name to Elliot.

After making his first coming out in 2014, Elliot Page appeared for a time with the artist Samantha Thomas. Since 2017, Elliot Page has been officially in a relationship with professional dancer Emma Portner. They had done several choreographies and works together before. Their marriage was celebrated in the greatest secrecy, in 2018.
