Netflix recently canceled its own comedy hope Blockbuster after the first season. Four months ago, however, the streaming giant saved an acclaimed comedy series from certain demise: Girls5Eva.

It rained for Girls5Eva Hymns of praise in the reviews and tears of laughter from the fans. Netflix cleverly circumvents its own sitcom problem.

Girls5Eva solves Netflix’s sitcom problem: you can now stream 2 full seasons

Since February 01, 2023 there is both previous seasons of Girls5Eva to stream on Netflix. A few months ago, Peacock’s musical comedy was canceled after Season 2 to subsequently saved by Netflix to become. the 3rd season is already being planned.

Previously, Netflix had no luck with their own sitcom attempts and had to rely on expensively licensed hits like Das Büro, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Community. No comedy in-house production has come even close to these role models.

Last year, Space Force by Das Büro creator Greg Daniels, also with Steve Carrell, was canceled after 2 seasons and Blockbuster with Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Melissa Fumero after the 1st season. The comedy didn’t even make the Netflix top 10 in the US, and reviews were mixed.

The solution of the problem? Save an already acclaimed comedy series from another streaming service and continue it yourself.

Spice Girls allusion in Girls5Eva

It’s a huge gift for Girls5Eva fans. Not least because Netflix makes the series accessible to the general public and they finally the attention it deserves receives.

After Girls5Eva you will have a catchy tune for the rest of your life

But they are good, clever and hilarious catchy tunes. Girls5Eva is a music comedy. The premise certainly speaks to any (former) fan of the Spice Girls and others Girl and boy bands of the 90’s and 00’s on.

Around the year 2000, the eponymous girl group Girls5Eva had a single successful album. Around 20 years later they all lead a completely different life than their big hit unexpectedly sampled by a successful musician and runs up and down on the radio. They want to seize the opportunity for a comeback. A very bumpy comeback.

Girls5Eva

In the Metacritic review collection, the two seasons received a very high rating of 80 and 81 percent, respectively. Girls5Eva sits down humorous with the dark side of the music business apart and what has (not) changed there since the 1990s.

We accompany the women in their music career for the first time to take into your own handsto write their own songs and to defend themselves against the exuberant sexism of the industry. It stars Sara Bareilles, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell and Renée Elise Goldsberry as the group’s Beyoncé, who all gets solos.

In addition to the engaging chemistry of the four actresses, the incredibly funny music (including music video excerpts) is the big highlight. the Earworm grenades by showrunner Meredith Scardino and composer Jeff Richmond range from the intro song Famous 5eva to BPE (Big Pussy Energy).

It is now available on Netflix both seasons with a total of 16 episodes, each lasting 30 minutes. Eight hours of musical laugh muscle training await you.
