Artists performing along citys trails for Culture Days

There is a lot to see and do on Saturday as the city participates in a national celebration of arts and culture.

Musicians, actors and visual artists are taking part in the city’s Culture Days on the Trails from 10 am to 1 pm They will be showcasing their work along a 2.6-kilometer stretch of trail from the Hardy Road parking lot to Lafayette Avenue.

“The city is home to a rich and diverse arts community,” Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis said in a prepared statement. “Arts and culture play a key role in building strong, sustainable, and vibrant cities and events like Culture Days on the Trails help us showcase two of our greatest assets – our talented arts community and our beautiful trails.”

Culture Days is celebrated annually to recognize the important role arts and culture plays in communities across Canada. Millions of people are expected to attend events in communities across the country.

“We are proud to once again take part in this nationwide event that honors artists, creators and cultural contributors,” Kara Davey, the city’s manager of tourism, culture and sport, said. “This year, we are excited to bring a small section of our 70-km of natural trails to life with art, music and entertainment for a day, shining a light on our talented residents and beautiful natural assets.”

The list of participating artists includes: visual artists and musicians Aleah D and J Hache; musician Chris Strei; musician Emily Johnson; Piano Escape; musician; Jocelyn June; musician Calm Canopy; The Paris Performers Theater-improv; dancer Sumedha Mongia; musicians – The Caribbean Kyle Duo and Tony Pallo, sculpture.

Arts and culture will also be on full display at the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead, 359 Blue Lake Road, St. George, on Saturday.

Home Brew, a community festival organized by Joan Minnery, takes place from noon to dusk and features dancers and musicians as well as the Paris Port Dover Pipe Band. Other scheduled performers include the Angus School of Highland Dance, Hungarian Village Dancers and Ukrainian Village Dancers as well as Minnery’s band Sivle.

Admission is by way of a free will donation and visitors are advised to bring lawn chairs.

Culture Days in Brant County features a county-wide scavenger hunt on Saturday from noon to 5 pm and a local art exhibit at the Taren White Gallery from noon to 8 pm

Other Brant County events include a Behind The Scenes Collection Tour at the Paris Museum from 1 pm to 4 pm
