After the armistice of June 22, 1940, a substantial part of the world of culture oscillates between helpless revolt, resignation and active collaboration. Over the months, however, after the amazement, writers, artists and intellectuals join the Resistance. Still others, by constraint or by choice, take the path of exile, putting their talent for the benefit of free France and the fight against Nazi oppression.
