The loss of his sight hit like a cannonball. “The hero was felled. I was always the linchpin in the house, dancing and singing in the living room, but when I had to go home with the message that I am blind for good, my world came crashing down. It was a disaster. I was sad, angry, disappointed and depressed.” His life came to a standstill, while the depression worsened. “Eventually I realized that something had to change. If I have to last another twenty-five years, it couldn’t go on like this. Doing nothing is poison for myself, and for my environment. My wife, children and grandchildren do not deserve that.”
