Google claims that its technology, called the Language Model for Conversational Applications, or Lamda for short, can participate in open-ended conversations and is a major technological breakthrough.
But engineer Blake Lemoine, who works in Google’s Responsible Artificial Intelligence division, believes that a sensitive mind may be behind Lamda’s impressive verbal skills.
Google denies this, stating that the allegations are baseless.
In a written statement to the BBC, Google spokesman Brian Gabriel told Lemoine that “it was stated that there was no evidence (and a lot of counter-evidence to refute this claim) that Lambda was susceptible”.
Lemoine, who is on paid leave, has released a transcript of her conversation with Lamda to support her claims.
Lemoine’s conversation with a colleague was captioned, “Is the Lambda responsive?
