Art scholarship available through Thames gallery

For the fourth year, and thanks to a generous donation, the Thames Art Gallery is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a student graduating from a Chatham-Kent secondary school.

For the fourth year, and thanks to a generous donation, the Thames Art Gallery is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a student graduating from a Chatham-Kent secondary school.

To be considered for the scholarship, donated by Cathy Van Raay-Myers, candidates must be in their graduating year of high school and attending a post-secondary program in an arts-related discipline in the fall.

Students are eligible who intend to study programs including, but not limited to visual arts, fine arts, film, photography, printmaking, animation, digital media, graphic design and craft.

Submission deadline is June 2. Applicants must submit a portfolio of six to eight artworks and be available for an interview with the gallery curatorial staff. These interviews are scheduled to take place from June 5 to June 7.

The recipient of the scholarship will be announced at the reception of Here I Am, the student exhibition of 2024 at the gallery on June 21 at 8 pm

The previously online exhibition celebrates the curiosity, passion and technique of emerging young creatives from June 14 to Aug. 11.

The scholarship application form and guidelines are available on the Thames Art Gallery website at www.tagartspace.com and www.chatham-kent.ca/TAG. Hard copies of the application are also available at the gallery.

The Thames Art Gallery’s hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm and Thursday from 11 am to 7 pm
