Arsenal saved points – but advantage City in the fight for gold

The bottom team shocked the league leader by having 2–0 already after just under a quarter.

Aaron Ramsdale offered Carlos Alcaraz the lead goal after half a minute. The Arsenal goalkeeper was responsible for a huge blunder when he served Alcaraz the ball via a failed play.

Former Arsenal player Theo Walcott followed up by rolling in the 0-2 goal after another gross negligence by the home team.

In that situation, Oleksandr Zintjenko gathered the home team for a serious conversation. It had an effect. A few minutes later, Gabriel Martinelli sent in the reduction that made contact.

Arsenal poured on, but got very little meaningful done in the way of chances.

Earlier in the season, Arsenal found themselves 0–2 down at home at the Emirates against Bournemouth. That time, the club managed to turn around for a 3–2 victory deep into extra time.

There was no indication that something like this would happen again.

Instead of an equaliser, Zintjenko went away in the marking on a corner and Duje Caleta-Car headed in 1-3.

Curtain for an Arsenal? Not at all.

Martin Ødegaard’s late 2–3 reduction was followed up by Bukayo Saka’s 90th-minute equaliser.

In added time, Leandro Trossard hit the crossbar, one of many hot chances for a winning goal and a sensational turnaround.

The London club still lead the league, but chasing Manchester City, five points behind, have two games less played and on Wednesday next week Arsenal will come to the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

A game Arsenal will likely need to take points in to win the league for the first time since 2004.
