The stakes for the match were high. Liverpool had a chance to get back to the top of the league, Arsenal, on the other hand, went into the match with a loss on their neck, which they suffered against Bournemouth. Before Sunday’s game, Arsenal were already six points behind league leader Manchester City.
Arsenal, which suffered from injuries, received good news during the match, when the injured in the Nations League match against Greece Bukayo Saka returned back to the lineup.
Saka immediately showed his importance when he gave Arsenal the lead in the ninth minute with a spectacular shot. The goal was the star’s fourth of the season in the Premier League.
Saka’s success was only the prelude to a wild opening period, during which we saw two more goals. Initially Virgil van Dijk tied the game ten minutes after Saka’s lead goal.
However, the home crowd was still able to rejoice before the end of the episode, when Mikel Merino put Arsenal back in the lead.
The readings held almost until the end of the game, but in the end, Liverpool, who slightly dominated the game, managed to equalize. Mohamed Salah put the ball in the net at the end of a nice composition. The goal was the Egyptian’s sixth of the season.
Just as full time was coming up, we saw more drama. Arsenal got the ball into Liverpool’s goal, but the game had already been whistled for a foul. So the final numbers were 2–2 (2–1).
Thus, after nine matches played, Manchester City leads the Premier League. Liverpool is one point away from City, Arsenal is five points behind the leader. Arsenal are level on points with Aston Villa.
