Arrested for suspected murder plans at a student party in Södertälje – five released

It was at the beginning of June that the police were alerted to a student party in Södertälje. Eight people were then arrested on suspicion of, among other things, preparation for murder.

– We were alerted to an address in Södertälje because unauthorized people had sought out a closing party and created anxiety and fear, says Mikael Alfredsson, municipal police, in a previous interview with SVT.

The people who were arrested are variously suspected of preparation for murder, serious illegal threats, assault in legal proceedings and serious weapons offences.

Five released at large

Two people were initially detained on probable cause and the other six people have been reasonably suspected.

On Friday, another person was re-arrested as a suspect on probable cause, the remaining five people have been released.

– During the week, the police have worked very intensively on this case and as far as the person who is now in custody is concerned, the level of suspicion has strengthened. For the other five, the degree of suspicion has not been strengthened, says prosecutor Carl Mellberg.

The other five are still suspects, but the prosecutor does not want to go into any details about what happened at the party.

– We are at a critical and intensive stage in the investigation and therefore I do not want to go out and tell you about what the investigation contains. It is both in relation to other suspects who may be at large or other people who may be affected, such as possible testimonies.

Aggravated weapons offense

There are reports that they have been seen with weapons, can you say anything about that?

– I can state that the three people who are in custody are, among other things, suspected of serious weapons offences.

Can you say anything about the connection the people have to the gangs in Södertälje?

– No, I can’t say that.

The identity of the detainees, who are between 17 and 28 years old, is under secrecy.
