arrest warrant against Nelson Mandela soon to be auctioned in

A request for an arrest warrant against Nelson Mandela dating back to 1961 will soon be auctioned. Except that its purchaser will not own it personally, but virtually, since it is an NFT sale: it will therefore have a digital replica as well as a title deed.

This large auction, organized in Cape Town and online by the company Momint, offers to virtually acquire various works by South African and international artists. But the centerpiece is this request for an arrest warrant against Nelson Mandela dating from 1961.

The auction will open at 900,000 rand, or more than 50,000 euros and the future buyer will receive a digital version of the document, as well as a form of unique title deed in the form of “ non-fungible token “. This NFT certifies the possession of the good and its authenticity.

A sale in support of the Liliesleaf Museum

The amount raised will support the Liliesleaf Museum, which retains the physical version of the document, and which closed its doors due to financial difficulties. And the purchaser can also subsequently resell this NFT if he wishes.

This is not Momint’s first attempt, since in November 2021 an NFT sale had already been organized in South Africa, with in particular a digital replica of a rhinoceros horn purchased for more than 6,000 euros which funded the conservation of the species.
