In the statement made public this Saturday, Synergie d’Action pour le Mali, which brings together a coalition of political forces that are rather opposed to the junta, denounces “ a flagrant violation of human rights and freedom of expression “, before demanding the immediate release of their comrade.
Arrested by men who were not formally identified (some were armed), Youssouf Daba Diawara had just come from a ceremony to pay tribute to Malians who lost their lives during the protests that preceded the fall of former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta (IBK) in 2021. According to our information, he is now at the Judicial Investigation Brigade (BIJ) in Bamako. A lawyer and a close friend of Youssouf Daba Diawara were finally able to meet him on Saturday at the BIJ. He will in principle be brought before the courts this Monday.
Very present on the ground of the contestation of the junta, Youssouf Daba Diawara is close to Imam Mahmoud Dicko, now an opponent of the junta. The arrested man was the coordinator of the movements, associations and sympathizers of Imam Dicko, CMASa movement dissolved last March by the military.
