It happened just after 4:30 am when a suspect allegedly broke into the home and demanded valuables from two adult occupants, while threatening them with a hammer.

“Armed offenders breaking into occupied residences equals serious public safety concerns,” Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis said Sunday in a post on the social media site

He added that “excellent frontline response” by officers led to a suspect being quickly located and arrested.

Dan Plain, 33, of Sarnia faces charges of break and enter, two counts of robbery with a weapon, two counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, wearing a disguise with intent, two counts of uttering threats and two counts of breaching probation.

“At the time of his arrest, the suspect was bound by two separate probation orders for similar offenses,” police said in a news release.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the service’s criminal investigations division at 519-344-8861, or Crime Stoppers at 519-332-8477.
