Arnold Schwarzenegger lost his memory for 90 minutes during a shoot because Danny DeVito played a nasty prank on him

Arnold Schwarzenegger has acted in many films and has usually done so with great aplomb. However, when working with Danny DeVito, the actor played a prank on him that threw the actor completely off track for a short time.

Arnold Schwarzenegger enjoyed many successes during his career. Films such as Terminator, Total Recall and Predator are now cult films. He also tried his hand at directing, but was less successful.

He played alongside Danny DeVito in two films. First in 1988 in the highly successful film Twins, and then again a few years later in Junior. The two actors, who at first glance couldn’t be more different, became good friends right from their first collaboration.

This led to DeVito playing a mean prank on his colleague on the set of Junior.

What did the prank look like? Danny DeVito knew about Schwarzenegger’s love of cigars. He himself liked to smoke them. During a lunch break on the set, DeVito gave his friend a cigar, which Schwarzenegger smoked immediately.

What he didn’t know was that it wasn’t a normal cigar. DeVito had laced it with marijuana and didn’t say anything about it. Schwarzenegger felt the effects pretty quickly and returned to the set completely intoxicated.

As a guest on the podcast ImPaulsive, the actor described his experience as follows:

Suddenly I forgot all my lines. I even forgot that I had shot the scene that morning. When they said to me, “Arnold, this is a continuation of the scene we shot that morning,” I said, “I don’t remember what we did that morning either.” I said, “I don’t remember anything.”

Things got even worse. Schwarzenegger forgot about the next 90 minutes and couldn’t concentrate on his work until the effects of the cigar wore off. He felt terrible for forgetting his lines and thought he had wasted everyone’s time on set.

How was the matter resolved? Only when Schwarzenegger was able to think clearly again did he see DeVito and director Ivan Reitman grinning and giggling. Schwarzenegger realized that he had been the victim of a prank.

To this day, he cannot remember those lost 90 minutes. Junior came out a short time later in 1994 and was a commercial success. Arnold Schwarzenegger will always remember the filming – although, or perhaps because, he has forgotten part of it. Incidentally, Arni did not get a major role for Marvel – because he was too small for it.
