Arne Hegerfors is one of our most experienced and leading sports commentators.
But there is also a downside to working the way he has done all these years – namely that the family risks suffering.
– Maybe I should have ignored my career, says Hegerfors.
Arne Hegerfors, 80, has a long and successful career as a sports commentator. Already in 1969, he started commenting on sports on behalf of Sveriges Television, and he remained there for a full 43 years. Over the years, he has, among other things, commented on numerous football championships, ice hockey tournaments and the Olympic Games. In 1992, he also won the Great Journalist Award.
Arne’s confession
But just because you are a successful and acclaimed commentator does not have to be completely problem-free. In the program “4 stars dinner” on Discovery, Arne Hegerfors talks about how the family has suffered because of his work and his career.
– There is no doubt that my eldest child Susanna suffered a lot from it, says Hegerfors in the program.

Arne Hegerfors also has two younger children from a later marriage that he had at a more mature age, as he himself describes it.
– The second marriage where I got married at a more mature age and had two children, they got a lot more from me. Susanna has felt left out and felt a bit like she does not belong to the family.

“Feeling guilty”
Hegerfors also says that it is something he feels guilty about.
– I feel guilty about that. Maybe I should have ignored my career and devoted myself to my child instead, but the question is what would have been best. For her it would probably have been better, but for my own part it probably wouldn’t have been very good.

Hegerfors had received his dream job, which simply became impossible to refuse.
– My life’s dream came true when I got to start TV sports, that was exactly all I wanted to do, he says.
