Arne Hegerfors has survived a stroke, heart attack and brain tumor.
Now the 80-year-old opens up about his new life and how he copes with everyday life.
– I can’t go out by myself, among people and in traffic, says Hegerfors to SportExpressen.
Recently, the legendary commentator appeared Arne Hegerfors at the “Hockey Gala of the Ages” in Avicii Arena. The 80-year-old icon gathered his strength and made it to the party night to pay tribute to Swedish hockey throughout the ages and also Börje Salming.
Hegerfor’s new life
The TV profiler had his wife with him Kerstin Hegerfors by his side. Which was absolutely necessary as he is unable to leave the apartment by himself due to vision problems.

The popular sports icon has had to struggle through everyday life in recent years after suffering a heart attack, stroke and brain tumor in the space of a few years. The illnesses have left their mark, but Hegerfors feels that he has been lucky to have survived everything.
– With a stroke, heart attack and brain tumor I should almost be dead, but in some amazing way the development of medical science has gone hand in hand with my illnesses. I’ve become some kind of guinea pig where they say: “Yes, we can do that now, too, serru.” Now we’ll see if we try this, if he can do it too,” he says in an interview with SportExpressen.

“Sörpla gruel”
Because of the tough bangs, the 80-year-old has had to change his everyday life and today lives a completely different life than before.
– I live healthier than I ever did, and that makes me feel better. I haven’t had any direct vices. I haven’t smoked, but I used to drink quite a bit, but now I drink basically nothing that contains alcohol. I have also been lucky enough to marry an expert in the field. Kerstin was the gymnastics director when we met, so she is very good at health and nutrition. I have the best care you can get in my own wife, he says to the evening newspaper.

Arne Hegerfors really highlights the wife as the great saving in life. He doesn’t know what he would do without her and is so incredibly grateful to have his beloved wife by his side.
– Kerstin means everything. I’m very well aware that I can’t handle myself. Without her, I’d be sitting in some house and slurping porridge. I don’t have a vision of the future right away, he admits in the interview.
