Arnaud Meunier adapts on the stage of the Espace Cardin of the Théâtre de la Ville, a burlesque and luminous vision of “Candide” by Voltaire. A creation that recounts with delicious irony the mocking spirit of the Age of Enlightenment.
Welcome to “the best of all possible worlds”. A world of wars, torture and injustice, rape and slavery, book burnings and death sentences, a world of earthquakes and shipwrecks. Welcome to the world of the tutor Pangloss and his young student Candide, whose tribulations will take him from Westphalia to Constantinople, passing through the mythical Eldorado and many other countries in Europe and South America.
Welcome to a hectic show of mischief, filled with a myriad of colorful characters served by 8 actors and 2 musicians full of enthusiasm and energy. Two hours of an incredible journey, sometimes burlesque, often unbridled, and always crossed by an irony as squeaky as delicious: that of the philosophical and initiatory tale of Voltaire: “Candide”.
The show is directed by Arnaud Miller. It is to be discovered until Friday February 18, 2022 at the Espace Pierre Cardin, one of the stages of the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris.
