Armory in Lights event brings in families

Pleased with the community response this year, the organizer of Armory in Lights hopes to continue to build on it in the future.

The popular Chatham event moved indoors this year and featured ‘Trouble at the North Pole,’ a theatrical event where visitors could become one of the elves, make gifts and help Santa solve a mystery.

The shows took place over four days, including the weekend.

“We’ve had a blast,” said organizer Lisa Lester, owner of Four Diamond Events. “Everybody has commented on how interactive the event is.”

Megan and Pat Whalen wrote the script for the show, which involved dancing, singing and audience participation.

One of the reasons for the move indoors was the possibility of poor weather, which can result in difficult conditions for the performers and crew, as well as potential cancellations.

Lester said she’s still happy to the decision to hold the event inside.

Yesterday, with the freezing rain. That was treacherous,” she said. “It was much more comfortable inside. … Their kids are dancing and they can feel the energy better.”

As for next year, Lester hopes to have shows for schools, which could be offered at a discounted price.

She credited performers, crew, volunteers and sponsors for helping to make the event a success.

“What makes us the most happy is seeing the community together,” she said. “And seeing kids just really enjoy themselves.

“Last night, I had a high school volunteer come up to me halfway through the night. He said, ‘I haven’t been this happy in a long time.’ It’s just nice to be back at this and spreading Christmas cheer.”
