Armand Duplantis has jumped the highest of all in the whole world.
But it is a record that the Swede is still looking for.
– I get closer and closer, he says.
It was almost exactly two years ago that Armands Duplantis enchanted an entire sports world. The Swede, then only 20 years old, broke double world records within a couple of weeks.
Senseless record
First, Duplantis jumped 6.17 meters and only a couple of weeks ago hit it by another centimeter. Since then, he has been looking for a new record – but it would take a long time for “Mondo” to jump even higher again than before.
At the end of March last year, he set 6.20 meters in Belgrade – and broke the record he has fought so hard for the past two years. And nowadays there is always a world record chance when Duplantis jumps – and the Swede always strives to entertain the audience by trying to beat it.
Aiming for a new record
But there is another record that Armand Duplantis has not broken. Throughout his career, the Swede has jumped over six meters senseless 41 (!) Times. However, there is another pole vaulter who has done it several times.
Namely the legendary Sergej Bubka who has succeeded with it all 45 times.
It is a record that Armand Duplantis is chasing – and which he will probably break already this season.
– I get closer and closer to Bubka’s number of jumps over six meters. It is a special feeling to jump over six meters and it is enjoyable, you never get used to overcoming that barrier, says “Mondo” to SVT Sport.
