He won the first WC gold of his career.
Now the star Armand Duplantis is being rewarded with a substantial addition to the coffers.
Armand Duplantis is clearly one of Sweden’s hottest athletes at the moment. Just 22 years old, before the World Championships in Eugene, USA, the star had almost won everything there is to win – and was only missing a World Cup gold.
Withstood the pressure
“Mondo” traveled to the championship as a big favorite to make the prize box completely complete. There is no pole vaulter who has been close to the Swede, who broke several world records throughout the spring, during the season.
And Armand Duplantis certainly held up, unsurprisingly, to the pressure. He was the only competitor to jump over six metres, and went on to set a new championship record of 6.06 metres.
As usual, the 22-year-old, who always wants to give the audience a competition to remember, tried for a new world record – something he managed already in the second attempt.
That’s how much “Mondo” took in
The Swede perfectly flew over the bar that was 6.21 meters and broke the world record for the fifth time in his career. The scenes of joy were incredible afterwards – and now Armand Duplantis has even more reasons to celebrate.
It is Sportbladet who writes that “Mondo” receives almost two million kroner, 1.8 to be exact, for the WC gold and the new world record.
Duplantis received around 700,000 kroner for the gold, and the new record gave a bonus of over one million kroner.
